THE MENU
Our Food
01
The What
We source the highest quality organic ingredients and support local Maine farms as much as possible. Our meats and eggs come from pastured animals, ensuring both healthier food systems and more nutrient density in our final products. It's no wonder that hens that spend their days clucking in the sunshine produce eggs that are substantially higher in vitamin D!
02
The How
Our food is prepared using ancestral practices (aka, the way our great-grandmothers did it), such as soaking grains and sprouting nuts - processes that remove phytic acid and other anti-nutrients that can otherwise damage our delicate digestive system. We slow roast our meat and bones to draw out collagen and maximize the nutrient density that is required for healing, and we slow-simmer fruits to allow for easier digestion.
03
The Why
These methods of preparation are time consuming, but essential during these periods of life when our bodies require deep physical and emotional healing. For postpartum moms, it supports in producing the highest nutrient breastmilk, replenishing lost minerals, and rebalancing hormones that dramatically affect our mood. For those recovering from surgery or medical diagnosis, it means faster-healing bones and tissues, increased immunity and calmer nervous systems required for deep and rapid healing.
The Cocoon Made Mission
The early postpartum period is a sacred window of time that has been honored in many cultures for centuries but is all but forgotten in today's society. We believe in honoring this transformative journey into motherhood by crafting postpartum meals and provisions that focus on nourishing the body during this crucial period. This is not just about pampering the new mother. It's about creating a supportive cocoon around her and her baby, where she feels held, nourished, protected and revered. And when she's ready to emerge from her cocoon, well fed, well rested and revitalized....well, you get where this analogy is going.
